Skin Tag &
Mole Removal

A skin tag is a small flap of flesh-colored tissue that hangs off your skin by a thin stalk. Skin tags are usually found in an area where your skin rubs together, or in folds, like armpits, neck, eyelids, under your breasts, or in your groin. Overweight people, people with diabetes, and pregnant women get skin tags more often. They can show up whether you’re a man or woman. A skin tag is usually harmless and painless. Most people choose to have skin tags removed because they don’t like the way it looks. Your doctor will select one of several ways to remove it during an office visit:

  • Snipping. Your doctor will numb the area. They’ll cut off the tag with special scissors. This gets rid of the skin tag immediately.
  • Freezing. “Cryotherapy” The use of super-cold liquid nitrogen to remove the skin tag. The skin tag will fall off about 10-14 days after the treatment. The downside is this method can irritate the skin.
  • Burning. An electrode sends an electric current into the skin’s growth. This method dries it out, so the tag falls off.

After the skin tag is removed, it usually won’t return.

Moles are growths on the skin made up of cells that produce pigment. Moles can grow anywhere on the skin, alone or in groups. They are usually brown but can be blue, black, or flesh-colored. Moles are generally harmless and don’t cause pain or other symptoms unless you rub them or bump against something.

Horizons Medical Care & Aesthetics physicians have the expertise to help improve your skin’s health and appearance. They also use minimally invasive techniques to treat benign (noncancerous) lesions, scars, cysts, and skin abscesses.

An abscess is a painful infection typically manifesting as a pocket of infected fluid. Inflammation is often present and can increase in severity with time alongside the infection. Though treatable when addressed early on, abscesses can lead to significant complications due to the spreading of material to nearby tissues.

The doctor will start by numbing the area with a local anesthetic, with an incision and drainage procedure. The physician will make a small incision into the abscess using a scalpel or needle, draining the abscess. The doctor may collect the discharge for testing. After draining the abscess, the medical provider will clean the wound and rinse it with a saline solution.
